OUAZ Loses Shootout with Life Pacific

San Dimas, Calif. - OUAZ faced a gritty Life Pacific team on the last game of their Southern California road trip. The game came right down to the wire, but unfortunately the Warriors were able to pull it out over the Spirit 73 to 70. The loss puts the Spirit at (8-17) overall and (1-10) in GSAC Conference play.

Reggie Orr, one of the top touted guards in the conference put on a clinic scoring 22 points on 7-11 shooting. The junior crashed the boards hard tonight with 8 rebounds. A rebounding guard is not something you see in today's game, but Orr does the dirty work coaches look for when recruiting guards. CJ Reed, a GSAC defender of the week showed his ability to swarm team's best players with 4 steals. Reed also tallied 14 points with one assist. Freshman Deuce Lloyd added 11 points with 9 of those points being from three. The freshman has seen a boost in efficiency from three and is starting to play a bigger role offensively. Zeke Viuhkola had a consistent game scoring 10 points with 7 rebounds and 2 steals. The Westmont transfer is making it apparent that even as an offensive superstar, he can also make an impact defensively.

The team came out the gates on a tear offensively getting into the paint even through contact. The Spirit shot an impressive 41% from the field in the first-half making up for their struggles from the 3-pt line. Defensively, the team had a gameplan and stuck to it. The Warriors shot a rough 30% from the field and 18% from three in the first half, while also being held to only 23 points. After being up at the half, the Spirit were still hot offensively, but allowed the Warriors to slowly creep back into the game. The Warriors shot an impressive 50% from the field after being completely shut down in the first half. The Spirit kept a single digit lead, until the 9 minute mark, where Life Pacific converted a fastbreak 3 pointer to take a one point lead. The game remained a nailbiter until the 2 minute mark where the Warriors converted a layup off a turnover then got to the free throw line on their next possession to push the lead to 3 with 1:33 left in the half. After a missed three point look to tie the game by Hunter Richardson , the Warriors went back on the other end and converted once again off a contested jump shot. After a great defensive stop and a quick three by CJ Reed, the Spirit were only down 72 to 68 with 28 seconds left. After another quick bucket, the team immediately fouled hoping for a missed free throw. After the Warriors did in fact miss one three throw, the Spirit got two attempts to tie the game, but unfortunately came up short.

Your OUAZ Spirit will return to action at home in Faith Arena Wednesday, February 12th at 7:30pm against in-state rival Benedectine Mesa. This game will be streamed on the GSAC Sports Network.
