OUAZ Sweeps Season Series Against Benedictine Mesa

Surprise, Ariz- OUAZ wins a tight knit contest against Benedictine Mesa, officially sweeping the season series. The big conference win puts the Spirit at (9-17) overall and (2-10) in GSAC play.

CJ Reed, had one of his best scoring nights of the year leading all scorers with 21 points on (6-12) shooting. Reed was shooting lights out from three knocking down 4 from beyond the arc. Jack Galiardi, had a great all around night as well with a 15 point performance notching 9 boards to go along with it. One of the best duos in the GSAC, consisting of Zeke Viuhkola and Reggie Orr contributed greatly on the boards with 12 each. Viuhkola dropped 14 points while Orr followed with a great 12 on 50% shooting. Great hustle shown by the tandem, as consistently fighting for boards is a rarity in college basketball.

The team who started the night off cold in the first half completely flipped the script in the second half going an amazing 62% from the field and 75% from three as well. Defensively, the Spirit shut down the Redhawks offense making up for the quiet start from a usually high powered offense. The Redhawks only shot 31% from the field in the first half and were held just below 40% from the field the entire game. The Spirit, who were down 4 at the half, put together an offensive clinic in the 2nd half, going neck and neck with the Redhawks. Neither team was able to pull away and the biggest lead of the half was 8 by the Spirit. The team finally pulled away around the 3 minute mark after a clutch Hunter Richardson three. Even with several Redhawks responses, the Spirit got late stops to put the game away and forced them to foul.

Following the Spirit's great win, the team will return to action against another huge in-state rival Arizona Christian on Saturday, February 15th at 2pm inside Faith Arena. The rivalry game will be streamed on the GSAC Sports Network
