Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Jas Singh

OUAZ Drops Rivalry Game to ACU

Surprise, Ariz- OUAZ men's basketball suffered a heartbreaking loss to Arizona Christian on this Saturday afternoon. The team gave one of the top programs in the country a run for their money, but took a tough loss 67-76. The loss puts the Spirit at (9-18) overall and (2-11) in GSAC conference play.

Portland CC transfer, Jack Galiardi has had a great week and puts up another stellar game. The 6'7 forward put together a nice statline tonight scoring 13 points on (6-11) shooting, while also grabbing 5 boards and notching a steal. Zeke Viuhkola, continued to get buckets offensively scoring 11 points on (5-12) shooting and recorded 4 rebounds. Off the bench, sharpshooter Hunter Richardson shot lights out going 50% from the field. The St. John Bosco grad, provided much more than his outstanding spot-up shooting tonight, driving to the hoop and scoring contested jump shots as well. The junior finished with 13 points and crashed the boards hard, nabbing 5 rebounds.

The Spirit came out the game solid defensively, keeping the lead close and not letting a high powered Firestorm offense get hot. Offensively, the team struggled from three, but was able to get to the paint at will and rebound efficiently. The team who at one point was down 8 with 2:44 left, ended the half on an amazing 8-2 run. This run was led by a Reggie Orr three and Cj Reed getting fouled on a three point attempt, which allowed him to knock down all three shots at the charity strike. The Firestorm, unfortunately came out the gates on a tear starting the half on a 12-2 run and didn't allow a single Spirit point until about 4 minutes into the half. The Firestorm did not let up, even against a Spirit team that has been an offensive juggernaut in the second half all season. With just under 3 minutes to go, the Spirit started up a nice run to bring the lead within only single digits. However, the Firestorm weren't going away, exchanging baskets with the Spirit all night long. The Firestorm bench was the key in their victory with 42 of their 76 coming from the bench alone. The Spirit shot an impressive 50% from the field in the second half, but were shadowed by a remarkable Arizona Christian offense that had an answer for every single Spirit basket.

The team returns to action for the final time in the 2024-25 campaign on Thursday, February 15th at 7:30pm inside Faith Arena. Join us to honor our amazing seniors and show our appreciation for their blood, sweat, and tears into this exceptional program! The game will be streamed virtually on the GSAC Sports Network for those who can not make it.
