OUAZ Sweeps Soka in Rematch

Aliso Viejo, Calif- OUAZ on the second day of the road trip had a great bounce back against Soka University sweeping them for the second straight time (25-11) (25-11) (25-8). The win puts the Spirit at a (2-3) start with plenty of season left to go.

Multi-sport athlete Gavin Waggoner had a nice night leading all hitters with 11 kills to go along with one ace. The soccer and volleyball player is starting his career off strong with a great performance tonight. Horatio Maumasi, in only two sets of play had a fantastic night once again hitting .556, killing 7 balls on 9 attempts. The Henderson native, is absolutely lighting it up offensively, and is proving to be one of the top middles in the country. Junior outside hitter Ka'imi Kealoha, had a perfect performance going 7 for 8 with a stuff house block. Greenway HS grad Gavin Shipman, provided phenomenal setting off the bench with 14 assists. He set the ball with great efficiency and location all night, while being a great depth piece for Coach Afusia.

Statistically the Spirit had one of the best nights of the season holding Soka to a -255 hitting percentage and only 7 kills the entire night. The Spirit hit an amazing .516 tonight, killing more than half of their attempts and only had 6 total errors the entire night. The biggest lead for the Spirit was in set 3 where they went on a 17-4 run and only allowed the Lions to score on hitting errors or missed serves. After setting the ace record in program history in the last matchup, the Spirit followed that up with 10 in tonight's matchup.

Your OUAZ Spirit men's volleyball team will return to action tomorrow night against Division 1 Jessup University in a matchup with longtime former head coach Kyle Steele. The game will be at 2pm (MST) in Aliso Viejo and will wrap the three game Southern California road trip for the team.
