Spirit Fall in Physical Battle Against Benedictine Mesa

Surprise, Ariz.- Tonight, the OUAZ women's basketball team suffered a tough loss to Benedictine Mesa. The Spirit fell to a score of 64-58 after a back and forth game. The Spirit shot a combined 35% from the field and 29% from behind the arc amounting to their 58 points. On the bright side OUAZ went 15/18 from the free throw line, taking advantage of the free points they were given.

OUAZ started off hot shooting 43% from the 3-point line and a combined 35% from the field but hit a cold spot in the second quarter only making 13% of their field goals. OUAZ overcame this in the second half shooting 38% from the field in the 3rd quarter and 57% in the 4th. Mesa dominated on the defensive end amounting a total of 12 steals throughout the game.

OUAZ struggled to maintain possession tonight, committing 23 turnovers allowing 18 points off the turnovers. Points off the bench were in favor of OUAZ by a mark of 27-15 showing off the teams depth. Despite the loss, guard Angel Addleman had herself a great game scoring 20 points on 6-13 from the field and 50% from behind the arc. Elaina Martinez also played well with 13 points shooting 71% from the field and going 3-5 from behind the arc.

The Spirit will look to bounce back from this tough loss on February 15th against their rivals ACU.
