OUAZ Bests Langston to Reach 4-0 Record

Langston, Oklahoma- OUAZ football picked up its 4th win of the year following the bye, heading back down to Central Oklahoma to take on Langston. The Spirit have jumped out to a 4-0 record, defeating the Lions 52-10 in another 40-plus-point victory.

Houston native, Luke Giron had his fourth straight 200-plus-passing-yard performance with 3 touchdowns. The 1st team All-SAC quarterback in 2024 was all over the field in Saturday's matchup, leading the team with 94 rush yards and a rushing touchdown. The senior has built up quite the career in Surprise, and his ability to escape the pocket will become pivotal come playoff time. Senior Jaylen MaGee dished out another impressive performance on the ground and through the air. The Lake Elsinore native exploded for 63 yards rushing with a rushing touchdown but hauled in a passing touchdown as well. The biggest play of the game came from MaGee with a 64-yard catch and run that landed the Spirit deep into Langston territory. Allen HS grad Jordan Johnson had some great touches in the backfield, notching 53 yards on 12 carries with a redzone touchdown. Grant Furrey and Tavarius Garland both also caught touchdowns early in the game. Garland had a nice 29-yard touchdown that capped an 11-play, 93-yard drive early in the 2nd quarter.

The defense continued to do what they have done all year, and that is absolutely kill drives before opposing offenses can even get into Spirit territory. For the fourth week in a row, the defense has held the opposing team to ten points or less. Corey Floyd Jr., who has been one of the best defensive players in the conference dating back to last season, had another tremendous game. Floyd Jr. led the team with 5 tackles and one tackle for loss as he continues to wreak absolute havoc in opposing backfields. Graduate senior Ryan Guerrero, along with Riley Pierce, also had noteworthy games, combining for 9 tackles and a tackle for loss each. Coach D's front 7 continues to remain stout, as the team once again only allowed Langston to rush for 66 yards. Takeaways have been a giant part of this defense's success, with Baltimore native Cory Ardery making a big interception in today's game, allowing OUAZ to start their drive at their own 25. This team's ability to get opposing offenses to struggle on 3rd down has been an underrated statistic. The defense only allowed Langston to convert three times on 14 opportunities today. This gave the ball back to the Spirit Offense in plus territory.

Your #15-ranked OUAZ Spirit continue to move up in the national polls as well as stay atop the SAC Conference. With a 4-0 record, the team will head back up to the Midwest to face Texas College on October 11th at 11am (MST) in Tyler, Texas.
