OUAZ Loses in Tough Test against Masters

Surprise, Ariz- OUAZ basketball were faced with a daunting task in a tough 2nd matchup versus Master's University. The team unfortunately fell short in a great effort 90 to 74. The loss puts the Spirit at (8-14) overall and (1-7) in conference play.

Reggie Orr, who has been on a tear all year, led the way with a solid 19 point performance in which he shot 6 for 9 from the field and was a perfect 3 for 3 from three. He also had two steals defensively and hauled in 4 rebounds. The transfer junior guard is averaging a solid 8.3 points per game and racking up 5 boards as well. CJ Reed, had a 16 point performance shooting 7-11 from the field on several great shots that opened up the Spirit offense. The Regis University transfer did significantly solid on the boards with a tied team high 6 rebounds. Litchfield Park native Shamar Moore provided a huge spark off the bench with 9 points that included a huge lob throwdown that caught the Mustang defense by complete surprise and lifted the crowd to its feet. Moore had several tough drives to the basket including one that drew an and one opportunity.

The Spirit fought all night and shot impressively all game. In the first half, the Spirit came out the gate hot shooting 55% from three and an even 50% from the field. The game was an offensive masterclass in the first half as both teams shot well and had a quick response after defensive breakdowns. With a back and forth game, the Mustangs were unfortunately able to end the half on a 6-0 run with only 1:02 to go after only being up 4. The 2nd half kept the same narrative as the first, both teams shot well even with good defensive contests. The Spirit started the half down 10, but were not able to bring the Mustang lead within single digits. The lead stayed consistent until the 6 minute mark, when the Mustangs pulled away with several threes and inside baskets from their frontcourt.

The Spirit continue GSAC conference play on Saturday, February 1st at 4:30pm as they travel to Prescott to take on Embry-Riddle University at the ERAU Activity Center. The team's second contest against the Eagles will be streamed on the GSAC Sports Network.
