Surprise, Ariz. – OUAZ Women's Basketball ended the week strong with a big 62-55 victory over Hope International (6-11 OVR, 0-5 GSAC). The win gives the Spirit an overall record of 14-4 on the year, and they are now 4-1 in conference play.
The Spirit's defense had a strong game, playing a crucial role in today's victory holding the Royals to a 30.8% shooting percentage from the field, 27.8% shooting percentage from three, while forcing 17 turnovers that resulted 18 points for the Spirit. The Spirit's offense struggled however, shooting 35.7% from the field, and 28.6% from the three-point line. They also lost the turnover battle, giving up 19 turnovers that resulted in 14 points for HIU. Strong defense and key baskets late were the key to the Spirit's victory.
Two Spirit players finished with double-digit points, led by Angel Addleman who put together another 19-point performance for the week, while adding two steals, 11 rebounds, and seven assists on a 55.6% shooting percentage. OUAZ also got contributions from Charli Cook, who scored 16 points on a 54.5% shooting percentage, and Tiana Sledge, who had a line of 13pts, and six rebounds, and two steals on the day.
The Spirit will head on the road next Thursday on January 23rd to play against longtime rival Arizona Christian at 5:30 PM (MST). They will then finish the week on the road against Benedictine Mesa on Saturday, January 25th at Noon (MST).
