Santa Clarita, Calif. The OUAZ men's basketball team suffers another tough loss that unfortunately pushes their losing streak to seven in a row. The final score was 67-80 at the hands of a talented Masters University squad, that has won 14 games overall with only 3 losses. This pushes the Spirit to a (7-9) record and winless in conference play (0-3).
Although the tough loss, 5 players including 4 starters managed to score in double figures. Zeke Viuhkola led the away along with Darius Kendall with 13 points each. Viuhkola continues his incredible stretch average 17.4 ppg and adds a team high 7 rebounds to his statline tonight. Kendall, a JUCO transfer from West Valley College, provided quite a spark off the bench with his 13 points and added two shots from beyond the arc. Hunter Richardson continues his hot streak and efficiency from 3, scoring 11 on (3-5) shooting. Reggie Orr and CJ Reed also continue impressing with 11 points each. The transfers remain to provide consistent play on both sides of the ball.
The Spirit struggled from the field in the first half shooting 27% on (7-26) shooting, but were able to get to the free throw line consistently to keep them in the game. From the 3 point line, the Spirit remained consistent shooting (9-26) in the game. The Spirit converted off turnovers at a high rate scoring 18 off Mustang turnovers. The perimeter Spirit defense was tough limiting the Mustangs to only 33% from 3, however the Mustangs found other ways to score shooting 45% from the field. Both teams had great contributions from the bench, but the Masters was able to pull away in the second half after only leading by 7 at halftime.
OUAZ will get another crack at ending this losing skid in a big home conference game against Life Pacific University on Thursday, January 16th at 7pm in Faith Arena. They will continue the homestand on Saturday, January 18th against the Royals of Hope International at 2pm in Faith Arena.
