Shutout Streak Comes to an End in Conference Opener

SURPRISE, ARIZ. – The OUAZ men's soccer team entered Tuesday night with a 360-minute shutout streak, not allowing a goal in a 3-0-1 start to the season. Both the shutout streak, and the unbeaten streak, came to an end in a final-seconds 2-1 loss to Park-Gilbert to start GSAC play.

After giving up a goal just 8:22 into the contest, the Spirit turned up the pressure and eventually tied it up in the 33rd minute. OUAZ earned a free kick, and Jamaine Turner converted with a laser to the back of the net for his second of the year.

The Spirit maintained much of the possession, especially in the second half, but were unable to get a lead-changing tally. The Buccaneers took advantage in the last 30 seconds, as Havard Brynie would pick up a rebound from a Hudson Deutsch shot to go up 2-1.

OUAZ would finish with nine corners, and finished the game with four shots on goal. Jonathan Garcia would make four saves in his fifth consecutive start for the Spirit.

OUAZ will not have to wait long to start a new unbeaten streak, as they host Benedictine Mesa on Thursday night. Kickoff at Spirit Field is set for 7 p.m.
