SILVAS, ILL. – The OUAZ women's golf team played through the first round of the NAIA National Tournament on Tuesday afternoon. The Spirit had a pair of players within a few strokes of the individual leaders, as Taylor Wilczek and Maddi Shoults can jump up the leaderboard with a great round on Wednesday.
Wilczek and Shoults each finished +9 on the day, sitting in the top 55 among all golfers. Shoults had a pair of impressive holes on the front nine, dropping a pair of birdies on par-4.
Jessie Sporle and Mikayla Sgrillo also each had a birdie, with Sporle completing hers on Hole 4, while Sgrillo started the back nine going one-under. Emily Larson had a few good holes on the day, finishing with five pars in the round.
OUAZ will continue with Round 2 on Wednesday looking to get back in the hunt. Jenney Kim Song will start the round for the Spirit at 1:40 p.m. CT/11:40 a.m. AZT
