CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA – The OUAZ men's volleyball team started its time at the NAIA Championships on Tuesday, matching up with 29-1 Reinhardt. The two teams battled through the first three sets, and despite leading 24-19 in the fourth set, would eventually be on the wrong end of that set and fall to the Eagles.
Reinhardt scored five consecutive points to tie the fourth set, and the Spirit were unable to extend the game. Three of the four sets in the match required the victorious team to score more than 25.
Prior to the contest, Emery Outin and Addah Nestor were given their AVCA All-American Awards, and they showed why they were named to the First Team. Nestor finished with a game-high 21 kills, and Outin had the second-most on between the two squads with 19.
Zeo Meyer was also honored with an AVCA First Team All-American award, and dished out 49 assists in four sets. Meyer finished with nine kills on 11 attacks, and also led the Spirit in digs with 12.
The Spirit are now 0-1 in Pool D play, making Thursday's matchup with against fifth-seed William Penn a must-win. First serve from the Alliant Energy Power House is set for 2 p.m. AZT
