SUN CITY WEST, ARIZ. – Taylor Wilczek has been a consistent force all season long for #14 OUAZ women's golf, and the freshman was recognized for her excellent season. Following the GSAC Championships on Wednesday afternoon, Wilczek was named the conference's Player of the Year as well as the Freshman of the Year.
In her first season at the collegiate level, Wilczek won four events and finished in the top three in seven separate tournaments. Wilczek currently sits at the sixth-ranked golfer in the NAIA, and finished third at the GSAC Championships this week.
Wilczek had a strong performance behind her first-round score of 70 (-2), and had seven of OUAZ's tournament-leading 24 birdies. Maddi Shoults, the other OUAZ All-Conference selection, finished with six birdies in the three rounds.
Shoults was outstanding for the Spirit all season long as well, ranking 23rd in the NAIA after four top-five finishes and a tournament victory. Shoults finished 11th, and shot up the individual leaderboard on the final day after posting the second-best round of the day, a one-over 73.
As a team, the Spirit finished third, just seven shots of the two leaders, Hope International and Vanguard, after the 54 holes. The Royals and Lions were deemed co-champions, but HIU won the team playoff and earned the automatic bid into the NAIA National Championship.
