No. 3 Spirit Play Wild First Set in Loss at Cal Lutheran

THOUSAND OAKS, CALIF. – The third-ranked OUAZ headed to California for its last weekend of the regular season, starting with a tough NCAA DIII opponent in Cal Lutheran. The two teams played a stalemate of a first set that ended with a 43-41 score, and the Spirit eventually lost the match.

OUAZ and Cal Lu refused to give any ground in the first set, as neither team held more than a two-point lead throughout. With the set tied at 20, neither team trailed by one point until the final 43-41 decision, where Cal Lutheran scored the final two points.

In the opening set, the teams combined for 53 kills, and only had a combined nine attack errors. Neither team would combine its kill total in the final two sets to match its opening effort.

Three different Spirit players had double-digit kill totals, led by Emery Outin's 15. Outin finished with a .444 attack percentage, and teammate Caeden Salmen finished with a .455 percentage to go along with 12 kills.

Zeo Meyer continued to prove why he's consistently the NAIA Setter of the Week, finishing with 44 assists. He averaged 14.67 assists per cent, and had four kills on just five attacks.

The Spirit have a day off on Friday, then will play for a share of the GSAC Regular Season Championship against #1 The Master's. First serve in Santa Clarita on Saturday is set for 1 p.m.
