HENDERSON, NEV. – It was a great week of competition for the OUAZ women's golf team, who finished second at the RMC Intercollegiate. The Spirit finished only behind the two-time defending NAIA National Champions, and a third-place individual finish by Taylor Wilczek earned her a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
Wilczek was consistent all tournament long, finishing with the most birdies in the entire tournament. Wilczek had five of her 13 birdies in the second round, and was -1 for the final 18 holes on Tuesday.
Jessie Sporle finished 10th, posting a 232 (+17) over the three rounds. Sporle had a great first round, finishing +1 and knocking in two birdies in the opening journey around the course.
Maddi Shoults finished tied for 11th, and had a matched Sporle in the first round (+1, 73). Shoults had three consecutive birdies during the final round, and her eight total birdies over 54 holes was sixth-most in the tournament.
Mikayla Sgrillo finished tied for 16th, the fourth Spirit player to finish inside the top 20. Sgrillo played solid in the final two rounds, picking up three birdies along the way. Chiara Israng finished tied for 30th, and also had a pair of birdies across rounds two and three.
The Spirit will have a week away from competition, then come back to host its annual Spring event. The first round of the Showdown at Sundance is set for Monday, March 18 in Buckeye, Ariz.
