OUAZ Walks Off The Master's to Set Up Rubber Match

SURPRISE, ARIZ. – Every baseball series in the GSAC so far this season has been a battle, and Friday's doubleheader between OUAZ and The Master's was no different. The two teams played to a split on the day, setting up for a series-winning third game on Saturday.

Game 1: The Master's 13, OUAZ 2

The Master's scored 12 of its runs in two innings, with the big frame coming in the second. The Mustangs scored eight runs in its second time at bat, then put up four more in the seventh frame.

OUAZ did have ten hits, but were not able to capitalize on as many of its opportunities. Matthew Carter and Gabriel DeJesus each had two hits, plus each drove in a run for the Spirit.

Game 2: OUAZ 2, The Master's 1

The two teams played with razor-thin margins to wrap up the night, as the game entered the seventh inning tied. OUAZ only needed two batters to end the game, as Christian Powell singled to left field to lead off the seventh, the Daniel Durazo tripled home Powell with a shot to right field.

Durazo's walk-off triple was his second hit of the game, one of three Spirit players to record a multi-hit effort in the last contest of the day. Nick Fratantoni and Carter each had a pair of knocks, and Fratantoni drove in OUAZ's first run of the game in the fourth inning.

Trey Trimble and Brayden Marcum were excellent on the mound, allowing just four hits over the seven innings. The two also combined for 13 strikouts, with Trimble recording ten of those in his 5.0 innings pitched.

The two teams will face off for the series tomorrow on Royals Field 6 at the Surprise Stadium Complex. First pitch in the rubber match is set for 10 a.m.
