It ended up being a 20-point victory for the OUAZ men's basketball team at Life Pacific on Thursday, but at times, in the second half, it didn't look so clean. The final was a comfortable 99-79 in Pasadena, California.
After Fitzgerald hit a three-pointer 90 seconds into the second half to give OUAZ a 23-point lead, things went South. In an eight-minute span, LPU (7-11, 0-10 GSAC) went on a 25-6 run to pull within four points. The lead hovered around eight points for three and a half minutes.
Something clicked again, and the Spirit was off and running again. OUAZ finished the game on an 18-7 run over the final seven minutes.
Five Spirit players finished in double-figures, with grad student
McKay Bundy leading the way with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Fitzgerald finished with 18 points to go with his six rebounds. Catchings had 16 points, three rebounds, a block, and a pair of steals. Grad student
Elijah Simmons scored 13 points and nine rebounds off the bench.
On Saturday, the Spirit travel to The Master's University (18-6, 7-3) in a battle of teams tied for first place in the Golden State Athletic Conference. Tipoff in Santa Clara is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. here in Arizona.
