Spirit sweep College of Idaho

The OUAZ baseball team continued their hot start to the season with a 16-8 victory over College of Idaho on Saturday afternoon inside Surprise Stadium.

Outfielder Daniel Durazo and first baseman Joey Winters both had four hit days for the Spirit (6-1).  Durazo went four for four with five runs scored and three RBI.  The four hits included a double and a triple.

Trey Trimble (1-0) picked up the win out of the pen with his 4.2 innings of two hit ball.

Idaho took the early 1-0 lead in the top of the first.  The Spirit came right back with two runs in each of their first two at bats, taking a 4-1 lead.

Idaho stormed back to grab a 5-4 lead in the third before OUAZ tied the game back up at five in the bottom of the third as infielder Christian Powell's single that drove in outfielder Logan Meyer.  An inning later, Durazo would score getting in under the tag on a fielder's choice to make it 6-5 OUAZ.

Idaho went back in front (8-6) at the game's midway point, but that would be the last runs the Spirit pitching staff would allow. It was all OUAZ offense from there on.

Two runs in the sixth, a huge seven spot in the seventh, and one more in the eighth, just for good measure.

The Spirit will welcome the Bethesda University Flames this Thursday through Saturday for a four-game series.  Games will be played on Royals field six.  Game times are 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, a doubleheader on Friday with game one starting at High Noon, and the series will wrap up with a single on Saturday at High Noon.
