SURPRISE, ARIZ. – The OUAZ women's basketball team honored its seniors on Saturday afternoon, getting a chance to reflect on what those players brought to the upstart program. Those same seniors played their hearts out, and nearly pulled the Spirit all the way back as they rallied hard in the fourth quarter.
Despite outscoring Hope International 27-11 in the fourth quarter, OUAZ lost 73-68 to close out its season. The Spirit made 52.2% of its shots in the final ten minutes, including a 50% mark from beyond the arc.
Makayla Holthaus had a big day in her final game at OUAZ, shooting 50% and posting a perfect mark from the free throw line to get a team-high 18 points. Holthaus also had five rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals.
Brianna Humphries posted a double-double to close out the season, scoring 11 points and pulling in 10 boards. Humphries was also active defensively, getting two steals and two blocks of her own.
Tiana Sledge fell one rebound short of a double-double, putting in hard work to get 13 points and nine rebounds. Sledge was one of four Spirit players to score in double-digits, joining Holthaus, Humphries, and Angel Addleman who posted 10 points.
