Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Spirit nearly pulls off the upset

The OUAZ women's basketball team put together the best team effort in conference play, battling The Master's to the end before losing 58-57. The Spirit (7-11, 0-11 GSAC) dominated the paint scoring 38 of their 57 points (66.7%) in the paint.  The Master's (20-5, 7-4 GSAC) only managed to get 22 points from the area.

"It was by far the best game we've played this season," said Head Coach Bob Henige.

It was a tale of two halves.  In the first half, OUAZ fought back from a slow start to take a two-point lead at the break 34-32.

The second half was a whistle fest as the two teams combined for 49 total points.  TMU was awarded 23 free throws (making 15), compared to OUAZ, who went to the line 10 times (making five).

Sophomore forward Brianna Humphries recorded her fifth double-double of the season, ranking her third in OUAZ annals for most double-doubles in a year and career.  The totals were 15 points and 14 rebounds, and she also had four steals in the game.

Sophomore guard Angel Addleman put up 13 points, giving her 14 games this season in double figures.  The guard also had six assists and three steals in the game.

Tiana Sledge came off the bench and scored 11 points before fouling out.

A 15-7 third quarter allowed the Spirit to build an 11-point lead with 1:12 to go in the quarter.  Humphries nearly had her double-double in the third quarter alone.  Going for seven points and six rebounds in just that ten minutes.

OUAZ will stay in SoCal to take on Bethesda University on Monday.  Tip is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at the Anaheim Salvation Army.
