The OUAZ Bowling squad started their 2024-25 season at the Oak Tree Invitational and Fiona Financial Services Open at Oak Tree Lanes in Diamond Bar, Calif.
During the qualifying portion of the Oak Tree Invitational, OUAZ went 2-2 defeating CSU Fullerton and San Jose State's Women's team, while dropping matches to Grand Canyon University and UC Davis. In the Baker Team games, OUAZ went a disappointing 1-11. Three of the losses were by less than ten pins, but still finished in tenth place.
Freshman
Zoey Meraz finished third (157.75 average) and
Maddisen Rook finished fifth (147.25) in the Women's individual rankings. Freshman
Spencer Dokl completed his first collegiate tournament with a top 25 finish with a 178 average, nine pins above the average for the field.

On Sunday, the Spirit bowled six games under team conditions and went 2-3-1 finishing in tenth place. Both Meraz, with her 166 average, and Junior
Emma Hill, with her 146.8 average, finished in the top five. On the men's side,
Jeffrey Crowley finished top 20 with a 188.2 average. The team defeated CSU Fullerton and Fresno State's JV squad. The ultimate rarity in bowling happened in the positioning round when OUAZ and Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo tied with 777 scores. Cal Poly-SLO entered with an eight pin lead in the match up.
The team will now prepare for the Glen Carlson Las Vegas Invitational and Collegiate Shoot-Out tournaments in Las Vegas, Nevada the week of December 18-21 at the South Point Bowling Plaza. The Glen Carlson Las Vegas Invitational is the largest and most respected tournament in all of collegiate bowling. Over 80 teams will compete in each of the tournaments.
