MESA, ARIZ. – In the first two matches between OUAZ and Benedictine Mesa, the respective home team won in four sets. Unfortunately for the Spirit, that trend continued in the semifinal of the GSAC Tournament, as they were on the wrong side of a 3-1 decision to end the season on Tuesday night.
Second-seeded OUAZ came out swinging against BenU Mesa, winning the first set 25-20 in impressive fashion. While the Spirit played well in the final three sets, the Redhawks seemingly never made a mistake as BenU took the final three frames of the match.
OUAZ had a pair of players with 10 kills, as Katy Shockey and Lauren Wamsley reached double-digits. The all-conference selection Wamsley had her 12 double-double of the season, also recording 15 digs over four sets.
Wamsley also tied for the match lead in service aces, getting a pair during the contest. The Arizona native also had two blocks, while Jaelah Curtis, seeing extended action, led OUAZ with four blocks on the night.
Amey Rainaud had a match-high 20 digs, as three Spirit players finished in double-digits. Kaitlin Brown was one kill shy of a double-double, getting nine to go along with her 13 digs.
The great 2024 season has come to an end for the OUAZ women's volleyball team, finishing with 16 wins, 10 of those coming in GSAC play. For the latest information on the OUAZ women's volleyball program, visit ouazspirit.com often.
