GLENDALE, ARIZ. – After falling behind a pair of goals in the first half, the OUAZ men's soccer team scored with less than four minutes before the half. Looking for the equalizer, the Spirit waited again until the clock nearly hit zeros, getting a goal to take a result away from near defeat in a 2-2 draw with Arizona Christian.
Aleem Barclay cut the deficit in half before the break getting his second of the year from the assist of Ethan Naiberg. Out of halftime, the Spirit had a majority of the chances but could not find the back of the net again through 42 minutes of the final frame.
After an initial free kick shot from Alvaro Hormigos, the rebound of the blocked attempt went right to the foot of Adam Hatuel who hit a laser to the back of the net for his first goal of the season.
The Spirit outshot the Firestorm, with most of that work coming in the second half. All seven of OUAZ's shots on goal came in the last 45 minutes, and only allowed five Firestorm shots in that frame.
With the Park-Gilbert win on Thursday night, the Spirit have been eliminated from GSAC playoff contention. OUAZ will still have a chance to play spoiler in its final game on Saturday, a 7 p.m. kickoff against Benedictine Mesa.
