Mesa, ARIZ.- The Spirit played spoiler tonight in their season finale as they tied Benedictine Mesa (6-8-4 Overall, 5-5-4 Conference) 2-2-. The tie puts the Spirit at 6-5-7 on the year and 3-5-6 in conference play.
The defenses came to play in the first half as both teams were shutout, sending them into the locker room with a 0-0 tie. The Spirit ended the half with four total shots, with the RedHawks having a total of 13 shots. OUAZ would get seven saves in the first half from Goalkeeper Johnathan Garcia.
The Spirit would strike first in the 57th minute of play with a goal by Jamaine Turner (9th on the Season). Turner would add another goal to his total in the 65th minute (10th on the season). The RedHawks would answer in the 69th minute with a goal by Carlos Barraza, assisted by Cornelus Miller. Benedictine Mesa tied the game late in the 85th minute of play with another goal by Carlos Barraza to end the game in a 2-2 tie. The tie officially eliminates Benedictine Mesa from GSAC postseason play.
