After a tough start to conference play, OUAZ Men's Soccer has put together two straight wins including a 3-2 victory in Saturday's contest against Hope International University (6-2-2 Overall, 3-1-2 Conference). The win puts the Spirit 5-3-2 on the year and 2-3-1 in conference play.
Joey Vega got the scoring started for the Spirit with a goal in the 16th minute, assisted by Jesus Castillo (his fourth on the year). HIU would respond in the 27th minute of action with a goal from by Andy Cabrera, assisted by Braulio Morales. This would conclude the first-half scoring as the Spirit and Royals would head into halftime tied 1-1.
HIU would open the second half scoring with a goal by Gonzalo Diaz in the 52nd minute, assisted by Bill Sanchez. It would only take five minutes for the Spirit to respond with a goal of their own by Ethan Castillo (fifth on the year). OUAZ would take a lead in the 73rd minute with a goal by Alvaro Hormigos (second on the year), assisted by Ethan Nailberg. The Spirit defense would clamp down, shutting down the Royals' offense to complete the 3-2 victory.

The Spirit will return home to face GSAC rival Arizona Chirstian (3-6-1 Overall, 1-4-1 Conference) on Thursday, October 10th at 7pm. They will then head on the road where they will look for revenge against Park Gilbert (4-3-3 Overall, 2-1-3 Conference), who bested the Spirit 2-1 at Spirit Field earlier this year, on Saturday, October 12th (Start time TBD).
