PINEVILLE, LA. – For the third consecutive game, the 24th-ranked OUAZ Football team scored 70 or more points as they cruised to a 70-14 victory over Louisiana Christian. The Spirit took a 35-0 lead into halftime and continued to score en route to a sixth-straight victory.
Luke Giron threw all five of his touchdowns in the first half, connecting with four different pass catchers for scores. Jalien Hammer caught two of those passes, and finished with TD in three of the four quarters on Saturday. All three of Hammer's catches resulted in a touchdown.
Jake Byrne had an efficient day passing as well, as three of his five completions resulted in a touchdown. In all, the Spirit scored eight times through the air, and had six different skill players find paydirt.
The run game was just as effective, as OUAZ racked up 355 yards. Jh'dhan Lester and Jaylen Magee each had 137 yards, plus Magee and Domonhic Jennings each scored a touchdown.
It was another stellar day for the defense as well, as they held the Wildcats to under 250 yards of offense. The Spirit picked up five sacks, and also had a total of 11 tackles for loss.
Isiah Cotton had a game-leading 10 tackles, with 2.5 of those coming for a loss. Cotton also had a pair of sacks in his effort, one of four players to earn a sack. Tyler Faber made seven solo tackles for the Spirit, and also forced two fumbles that his teammates recovered.
OUAZ will play its final home game of the regular season next Saturday when they host Langston. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., but come early as the team will recognize its Seniors. A limited number of tickets are available at ouazspirit.com/tickets.
