Surprise, ARIZ.- The Spirit bring their winning streak up to three after a 3-0 set Victory over Park Gilbert (4-8 OVR, 0-8 GSAC) on Saturday. The win moves the Spirit to 12-6 and their conference record of 6-2 which keeps OUAZ at third place in the GSAC, and only one game behind both The Master's and Benedictine Mesa.
Set 1:
The first set was all Spirit, as they went on to win 25-18. Jessica Pearce led the team with five kills, with Charli Cook having three kills, while Kaitlin Brown and Katy Shockey added two kills of each.
Set 2:
The Spirit trailed for most of the second set, and at one point were down 21-16, but they would go on a spectacular 9-3 run to get 25-23 set victory. Brown led the team with six kills, with Pearce and Wamsley each having three kills. Katy Shockey added two kills, and Brown also had a service ace in the effort.
Set 3:
The Spirit finished the third set strong with a 25-18 set victory to secure the sweep. Wamsley led the way with eight kills, followed by Shockey with three kills, with Logan Kuehn and Nina Peay each having two kills. Reegan Shoquist also added a service ace in the winning effort.
Top Performers:
The Spirit had some great performances in today's victory. Wamsley was the team's leading scorer with 13 points, which included a game high 12 kills, two blocking assists, and 16 digs. Brown also played well with 11 points, nine kills, 17 digs and two blocking assists. Pearce put together a solid game with 10 points, nine kills and two blocking assists. Shockey also had a good day with 8 points on seven kills, and two blocking assists. The Spirit also got contributions from Kuehn (three kills and 21 assists) and Kaiden Raif (12 assists and one service ace). Â

The Spirit will play two crucial contests with major GSAC standing implications next week, starting with a home game against The Master's (13-5 OVR, 7-1 GSAC) on Friday, October 25th at 6pm. They will then head on the road to play a match against another GSAC opponent in Embry Riddle (10-10 OVR, 3-4 GSAC) on Saturday, October 26th at 2pm.
