Box Score SURPRISE, ARIZ.- A defensive battle ensued at Spirit during Thursday's contest against rival Arizona Christian University (4-5-2 Overall, 2-3-2 Conference) as the match ended in a 1-1 tie. The tie puts the Spirit 5-4-3 on the year and 3-3-1 in conference play.
The Firestorm would get the scoring started with a goal by Jada Barnett (First on the Season) in the 21st minute of play. Tempers flared in the 37th minute as a fight broke out between two players, resulting in red cards being assessed to the Spirit's Karissa Frerichs and to the Firestorm's Alyssa Mercado. The first half would end with a 1-0 lead for Arizona Christian.
The Spirit would open the second half scoring with a goal by Krystal Sanchez (First of the Season) in the 62nd minute, assisted by Amanda Witkowski off the corner kick. The defense for both teams would be the talking point for the remainder of the game as neither team would be able to find the net for the remaining 28 minutes of the game.
