It took a few more points than normal, but the OUAZ Men's Volleyball team defeated William Penn University of Iowa 3-1 at the St. Xavier Tournament in Chicago on Thursday, January 25th to open the season.
 
The opening set went to William Penn (0-1) 27-25.  Then OUAZ rattled off 25-19 and 25-20 sets to take a 2-1 lead.
 
In a marathon set, OUAZ (1-0) finished it off with a 31-29 set.
 
Emery Outin tied for a match-high 17 kills.  Addah Nestah and Brody Smith each had 11 kills in the match.  Zeo Meyer distributed well with 40 assists.  Meyer also had three service aces.
 
The Spirit will take on tournament host St. Xavier University on Friday in Chicago.
