There are days that nothing seems to go right. Then there are days that everything goes your way. Saturday, Sept. 16 was a day that started ok, then went South, then turned back around. What it all added up to for the OUAZ Spirit was a three-set loss to Life Pacific inside Faith Arena.
The Henige sisters, Rylie and Brittney, each had six kills to pace the offense, while
Cristal Carrizoza passed out 16 assists.
Kenzie Kuxhaus lifted 12 balls in the air on defense.
OUAZ built an 11-10 lead in the early portion of the first set. Life Pacific (12-3, 4-0 GSAC) then went on a 7-0 run that was interrupted by an OUAZ. The Orange and Red battled back to within 20-15. LPU then rattled off four points before OUAZ could claw back two points, but it sadly was too little, too late. LPU took set one 25-17.
The second set was just one of those sets where the Spirit just couldn't get anything going. LPU had strings of 4-0, 6-0 and 7-0.
OUAZ turned it around in the third set. After LPU staked themselves to a 2-0 lead to open the set, a 6-0 run by the Orange forced LPU to take a timeout. After the timeout, OUAZ went on a 5-3 run to take an 11-5 lead. Well, LPU doesn't have 12 wins on the season because they fold over. They came back and had a 4-0 run and a 7-0 run that was broken up by a 3-0 run by OUAZ and an OUAZ timeout, to take a 20-17 lead. OUAZ would go on a 6-2 run to take a 23-22 lead and force an LPU timeout. Sadly, LPU would close the match out with a 3-0 run to win in three sets.
OUAZ will be back on the court on Thursday as part of a season-long four-match home stand. Get your tickets for Thursday as they take on ACU at 6:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased on the Hometown Tickets App or by
