Box Score The OUAZ women's soccer team entered the Top 25 this week at number 23. That was a program record. Early indications are there will be a new program high when the next rankings come out.
OUAZ (6-1) came away from 24 Oklahoma Science and Arts (5-3) 5-2 in Chickasha.
Mindy Lertzman found the back of the net in the 12th minute.
Haley Chitwood got the ball near the halfway line and fed it to Lertzman. Lertzman dribbled around three defenders and scored on the left side, which was the short side.
In the 24th minute,
Anabella Bara doubled the Spirit lead to 2-0. Bara was the beneficiary of a keeper turnover at the top of the box. She just tapped it into the goal for the score.
Before the end of the first half, Science and Arts scored to cut the lead in half.
Just after the break the Drovers were called for a penalty in the box. Bara would line up for a PK and would go top shelf to score on the attempt.
The Drovers would score again to cut within one at 3-2 in the 50th minute.
Just inside the 58th minute USAO would be called for a foul just outside of the box on the right-hand side of the pitch.
Amanda Witkowski lined up to take the free kick and lobbed it into the box where
Kylie Walker would score her first collegiate goal and make it 4-2 Spirit.
In the 61st minute, Lertzman had the ball in the box but was dispossessed of the ball. It went straight to
Heather Walker. Walker just chipped it over to
Grace Green who shot the ball to the top left corner of the goal and it hit nothing but twine.
The team will continue their Oklahoma road trip with a match on Monday morning (Arizona time) when they play Oklahoma City University.
Once done in Oklahoma, the Orange and Red will start GSAC play.
