Game Recap: Baseball |

OUAZ Drops Three Out of Four

Surprise, Arizona - OUAZ Baseball (13-20-1) dropped three out of four games this weekend against Vanguard. They lost the first three games, which were credited as conference matchups and won the lone matchup that did not count as a GSAC game.

GAME ONE

Trey Trimble was tabbed the Spirit starter in the first game Friday. He threw five quality innings while only surrendering three runs and striking out six. Trimble would not factor into the decision.

Catcher Deon Reese was the highlight in the OUAZ lineup. The backstop recorded two hits, two RBI's, and two walks on the afternoon. Reese knocked in a run in the fourth, extending the Ottawa lead to 3-1. He knocked in his second run in the ninth to give the Spirit their eighth and final run of the game.

Clayton Ross, a late entry, slapped two doubles in both of his at-bats bringing around an runner of his own. The eight runs and 12 hits as a team wasn't enough for OUAZ, as they fell 15-8.

GAME TWO

The second game of the day also did not fare the way the Spirit had planned. As a team they brought around just two runs on six hits, with the pitching side giving up eight runs.

Despite the 8-2 loss, Brandon Smith had a solid outing in relief for Creighton Silvian. Smith tossed the final four innings and gave up just one earned run on four hits.

Joey Winters and Bradley Wilkison recorded the only multi-hit performances, each with two hits apiece. Wilkison was responsible for both OUAZ runs, with an RBI single in the second inning and another in the sixth inning.

GAME THREE

The Spirit totaled nine hits in the final conference game against Vanguard, but were only able to muster two runs.

Gabriel DeJesus had a productive game at the plate. He had three hits, including a double and one of the team's two RBI's.

Staple reliever Luke Tedrick threw 4+ innings of shutout ball and allowed just two hits on his way to finishing the game out.

GAME FOUR

OUAZ was able to grab a win over the Lions to close out the weekend, by the score of 4-3.

They trailed early on in the game 3-1, but rallied for three runs in sixth to take the lead and close out the game in the seventh.

Hayden Ambuehl blasted a home run in the third for his first hit of the year to give the Spirit their first run of the game.

Henriadam Brower tied the game with an RBI single to left field to bring around Gabriel DeJesus. Jacob Griffin would end up being the game-winning run after scoring on a wild pitch.

Kapono Rawlins was credited with the win and save for OUAZ after tossing three scoreless innings.
