OUAZ Closes Season Out Tuesday Evening

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- OUAZ Softball (25-24) concluded their season Tuesday evening, suffering two losses to cross-town rival Arizona Christian. They lost game one 17-7 and game two 12-4. ACU won the season series three games to one.

GAME ONE

Savannah Sutton was the Spirit star in the lineup for the first matchup of the day. She had a 2-RBI double in the first to drive in the first runs for OUAZ and hit 2-run homer in her next at-bat in the third inning.

Charlene De Anda had a multi-hit game at the top of the lineup, including three runs. Mashayla Beltran had an RBI double and RBI triple but wasn't nearly enough for the Firestorm's 17 runs.

Angelina Mercado recorded two doubles for OUAZ, along with an RBI.

GAME TWO

The Spirit got off to a hot start in the first inning, putting up four runs. Mashayla Beltran roped an RBI triple down the left field line to get the scoring started.

Sophie Jackson was the lone Spirit player to have a multi-hit game in this one, with two doubles into the right center gap.

Ally McCutcheon came in relief for one batter in the sixth, poetically struck the batter out and walked off the field to a standing ovation after an incredible five-year career as a member of OUAZ.

OUAZ finishes the season with a 25-24 record, their second winning season in a row after winning 34 games last season.
