West Des Moines, Iowa — The fifth-ranked OUAZ men's volleyball team swept Webber International (Fla.) 25-19, 25-21, 25-13 in its opening pool play match of the 4th Annual Men's Volleyball National Championship. The Spirit, now 14-8 on the season, will face third-ranked Park (Mo.) tomorrow at 2 pm (PT).
The Spirit took control of a close first set with an 12-5 run after Webber had closed the gap to one. The second set was tied 11-11 when OUAZ ran off scoring runs of three, three and two to secure the victory 25-21. In the final set the Spirit jumped out 9-3 and never looked back. A pair of four-point scoring runs helped pave the way to the 25-13 win.
OUAZ was led by Emery Outin and Quaid King, who each recorded 12 kills in the match, but overall the Spirit were dominant offensively in the match [OUAZ 0.417 | Webber 0.175]. Tyler Gardenhire directed the offense with 34 assists in the contest.
