Surprise, Arizona - OUAZ softball (14-8) took three out of their four games played this weekend in Tucson, AZ. They took down Bethel, College of Saint Mary, and Siena Heights. The Spirit dropped their last game of the weekend against Jamestown.
GAME ONE: OUAZ 4, BETHEL 3
Bethel got out to an early 3-0 lead after three innings and the Spirit had nothing to show for it until the sixth.Â
Mashayla Beltran blasted a double to bring in the first run. Entering the final inning, OUAZ responded thanks to a Savannah Sutton homer to inch closer.Â
It was Breanna Gonzalez with the game-winning hit, a 2-RBI double, to get the Spirit on top 4-3.
GAME TWO: OUAZÂ 5, COLLEGE OF SAINT MARY 2
Jazmine Ayala took the circle in game two, throwing six innings while only surrendering two runs en route to earning a win.
The offense broke out for 14 hits in this, including six different OUAZ hitters with a multi-hit game.Â
Breanna Gonzalez knocked in three of the five runs for the Spirit. Gonzalez had two separate at-bats with RBI doubles.
GAME THREE:Â OUAZÂ 5, SIENA HEIGHTS 0Â
OUAZ breezed by Siena Heights for game three of the weekend, 5-0 on 12 total hits from the lineup.
Ally McCutcheon had a masterful performance, throwing a complete-game shutout on just four hits while striking out ten batters. She earned the win.
Breanna Gonzalez once again had a multi-hit and multi-RBI performance with two a piece in this one.Â
Savannah Sutton, Angelina Mercado, and Sophie Jackson each had RBI base hits of their own in this contest.
GAME FOUR: OUAZÂ 6, JAMESTOWN 7
The Spirit fell short in the final game of the weekend, losing 7-6 against Jamestown. It was a back and forth battle that went the wrong way for OUAZ.Â
Brooklynne Esquibel and Mashayla Beltran both logged two hits and an RBI, while Charlene De'Anda had the big 3-RBI triple in the fourth inning to keep things close.Â
Sadie Levandowski was charged with the loss in this one after tossing the final three frames.Â
