Box Score 2 SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The OUAZ Spirit Men's Volleyball team (4-1) split their two-match day in California. Against the Pacific Union Pioneers the Spirit came down from set one to win the 3-1, going on to fall against UC San Diego in three sets.
MATCH 1: OUAZ 3, Pacific Union 1
In a laser close first set that never saw more than a three point differential, the pair of opponents took it 12 rallies past 25 points, resulting in a 37-35 loss. The deficit did not last long with the Spirit pulling big wins in the remaining sets.
Through the next three sets (25-17, 25-16, 25-12) OUAZ pulled more kills (51) than their opponent with a percentage of .310 compared to the Pioneers .092. The Spirit ended up outsourcing 61 points to 53, earning their third win of the season and second on the road.
Senior Chase Marcy was a force on the court leading in all offensive categories while Kona Caruthers was able to pick up six blocks on the night.
MATCH 2: OUAZ 0, UC San Diego 3
The Spirit took on their first NCAA opponent in UC San Diego but fell to the Triton in a quick 3 sets (15-25, 16-25, 20-25).
Despite finishing down 10 points in the first and nine in the second, the Spirit put up a fight only allowing a five point win in the third, remaining within three points of their competitor for a majority of the set.
Quaid King and Emery Outin both topped the offensive leaderboards coming out with nine kills each. Outin finished with a kill percentage of .538 and King with .389.
