Rocklin, Calif. - A slow start and cold third period proved to be too much for the OUAZ women's basketball team to overcome in a 68-54 loss to Jessup University on Saturday afternoon. Though the Spirit were able to outscore the Warriors by a combined nine points (39-30) in the second and fourth periods, the 12-point deficit (21-9) in the first gave Jessup the edge it never gave up.
OUAZ moves to 5-19 overall and 1-15 in league action by dropping its 15th straight, thanks in part to hitting no field goals (0-for-10) in the third period. All six points that period came from the charity stripe. The Spirit finished strong though by connecting on 67% (10-15) from the floor in the final period. They were led in scoring by guards Marlee Johnson (15 points) and Cierra Kiser (career-high 11 points). The duo also accounted for 11 of the teams 30 rebounds.
