The top-seeded OUAZ women's soccer team defeated the sixth-seed Menlo Oaks 3-1 in the 2023 GSAC Women's Soccer tournament's semi-final match at Arizona Christian University.
Â
Anabella Barra quickly started things, scoring her first of two goals in the third minute for the Spirit (13-2-1). Seven minutes later, she struck again to put the Spirit up 2-0 just 10 minutes into the match.
Â
Menlo (4-7-2) closed the gap about 30 seconds later with their only goal of the match.
Â
Things settled down after that.
Â
In the second half, in the 68th minute, the Spirit's
Harlee Kuntz shot the ball from close range. It was blocked, but the rebound went right to
Krystal Sanchez's feet. She knocked it home through a crowd of a dozen legs for the third and final goal of the match.
Â
The win continues the Spirit's domination of Menlo as the all-time record for OUAZ is 6-0-2.
Â
On Saturday, the Spirit will face two-seed Hope International (13-3-2) who defeated Vanguard 2-1 earlier in the day. The match will begin at 1:00 p.m. on the campus of Arizona Christian University. The Spirit defeated the Royals 3-2 at home three weeks ago and leads the overall series 4-1-2.
