De’laCerda Sets Scoring Record as Spirit Win at Life Pacific

SAN DIMAS, Calif. – Josiah De'laCerda became the OUAZ men's basketball all-time leading scorer with 26 points as the Spirit defeated Life Pacific 79-64 on Saturday at Mehl Court.

De'laCerda notched his fourth 20-point scoring effort of the season and passed Dimetres Moore as the program's top scorer with 1,076 points in an OUAZ uniform.
OUAZ (12-4, 4-3 GSAC) also got 25 points from Keshawn Bruner in recording a sixth straight win. The Spirit shot 45 percent from the floor with 38 points in the paint and eight made threes. They held Life Pacific (8-7, 1-6) to 36.8 percent shooting and 3 of 18 from beyond the arc.

The Spirit never trailed after putting together a 14-3 run that opened a 32-17 lead with 5:48 to play in the first half. Life Pacific chipped away and got within 43-38 with 16:00 remaining when De'laCerda scored seven points during a 9-2 run that gave OUAZ control of the game.

It's the second straight game the Spirit duo had 20-plus points and the third time this season they have done so. De'laCerda made 10 of 15 shots – including 2 of 3 from deep – while grabbing seven rebounds. Jayce Catchings added 12 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Devin Collins had nine rebounds.

OUAZ totaled 12 assists with only six turnovers. They outrebounded the Warriors 40-34 and scored 10 points from 10 LPU turnovers.

Austin Cook scored 18 points to lead the Warriors.

The Spirit is headed home for a four-game homestand that begins on Thursday against William Jessup in a rematch of the 2022 GSAC Tournament title game.
