Spirit Winning Streak at Seven after 92-84 Win Over Warriors

SURPRISE, Ariz. – All five starters scored in double figures as the OUAZ men's basketball team defeated William Jessup 92-84 on Thursday night for its seventh straight win.

OUAZ (13-4, 5-3 GSAC) also extended its run to 22 consecutive wins when they score at least 80 points, including a 10-0 record this season. The Spirit shot 50 percent from the field and hit 8 of 20 from beyond the arc.

Devin Collins recorded a double-double with a season-high 17 points and 11 rebounds on 8 of 9 shooting. He scored six points – including a pair of tip-ins on offensive rebounds – during a 96-second span after William Jessup (10-8, 4-4 GSAC) had pulled within five with 4:04 remaining.

The first half saw 10 ties and four lead changes, and 2:05 before the break, the score was level at 29-29. The Spirit then closed the half with a 10-2 run that ended with a 3-pointer by Keshawn Bruner in the final seconds to give the team a 39-31 lead at intermission.

OUAZ never trailed again as they extended the lead to 51-39 with 14:52 on the second-half clock with the final of six straight Spirit points from Josiah De'laCerda. Jessup didn't go away and would get within 65-62 with 7:17 to play before the Spirit extended the lead to as many as 11 down the stretch.

Bruner led the Spirit with 18 points, with De'laCerda scoring 16. Alex Villi added 15 with three makes from deep, and Kolten Hitt scored 13.

OUAZ outscored the Warriors 48-40 in the paint with another 15 points on 13 Jessup turnovers. The Spirit tallied 15 assists and turned it over just nine times.

Myles Corey finished with 25 points to lead the Warriors.

The Spirit will return to Faith Arena on Saturday at 2 p.m. when they host Menlo.
