Winning Streak Halted by Menlo

SURPRISE, Ariz. – Looking for an eighth straight win, the OUAZ men's basketball team could not find an answer in falling to Menlo 91-78 on Saturday afternoon at Faith Arena.

OUAZ (13-5, 5-4 GSAC) led 4-3 when Menlo (15-4, 6-3) went on a 10-2 run and never trailed again. The visitors took control of the game with an 18-4 to build a 48-29 lead late in the first half. The Spirit would make a push at times and got within seven multiple times before the Oaks responded.

Menlo shot 51.7 percent and had 14 offensive rebounds for 21 points, while the Spirit controlled 18 defensive rebounds. OUAZ finished the day shooting 45.3 percent and just 3 of 17 from beyond the arc.

Keshawn Bruner led the Spirit with 27 points on 10 of 15 shooting. Josiah De'laCerda added 16 points, with Jayce Catchings going for 11 points and seven rebounds off the bench.

The Spirit scored 21 points from the 16 Menlo turnovers and added a 48-40 edge in paint points.

Kaito Williams went 6 of 13 from three and led the Oaks with 28 points. Khalid Price added 24 points.

Halfway through the conference season, OUAZ will host Westmont in Faith Arena on Thursday at 7 p.m.
