Three in Double Figures as Spirit Defeats Westmont

SURPRISE, Ariz. – It's back to the win column for the OUAZ men's basketball team after defeating Westmont 80-74 on Thursday night at Faith Arena.

OUAZ (14-5, 6-4 GSAC) scored six straight points early in the first half to open a 14-10 lead that they never relinquished. The Spirit then generated a 19-5 run that ended with a 39-24 lead at the 2:07 mark of the first half.

The advantage eventually reached 16 in the second half before Westmont (12-7, 5-5) began to cut into their deficit. The visitors held the Spirit to only two baskets over an 8-minute span to pull within 70-66 with 3:26 to play. OUAZ made enough plays and went 4 of 8 at the foul line down the stretch to earn a season split with the Warriors.

OUAZ finished the night shooting 46.4 percent from the floor while scoring 12 points from 10 offensive rebounds. They added five makes from beyond the arc and another 17 points from the 14 Westmont turnovers.

Josiah De'laCerda led the Spirit with 20 points on 8 of 12 shooting with seven rebounds and two assists. Kolten Hitt added 19 points, and Keshawn Bruner had an additional 15 points.

The Spirit outrebounded the Warriors 44-31, and they scored 15 fast-break points and 38 points in the paint. McKay Bundy and Devin Collins had eight rebounds apiece to lead the Spirit.

Westmont shot 44.1 percent from the field and got 27 points from Anthony McIntyre.

OUAZ closes its homestand on Saturday when they host The Mater's in Faith Arena at noon.
