EL CAJON, Calif – Playing its second game without leading scorer
Tiana Sledge, the OUAZ women's basketball team dropped its 11th straight game of the season to San Diego Christian, 77-58. The loss dips the Spirit record to 5-16 overall and 1-12 in GSAC play.
After falling behind by large margins in the opening period in the previous outings, the Spirit turned the table and held a one-point first quarter lead. The Spirit extended its lead to four with 3:07 to play in the half before a 10-2 SDCC run gave the home team a slim 35-31 halftime edge.
The third is where San Diego Christian took command by outscoring OUAZ 22-10 thanks to a 14-4 run in the first seven minutes and 50% shooting from the floor. They stretched the lead to 27 near the end of the contest and shot 64% in the quarter.
The Spirit were lead by the 15 point and seven rebound performance of
Marlee Johnson.
Tatiana Gary added 12 points and six rebounds and
Cierra Kiser notched 10 points and six rebounds. For the two games on this swing, this trio combined for 67 points and 37 rebounds.
OUAZ returns home on Thursday night against Life Pacific (5 p.m. MST) and then plays its second to the last home game of the season on Saturday afternoon against Vanguard (noon MST). Earlier this season, the Spirit lost to both teams including one in overtime to Life Pacific (69-66).
