Spirit Pick Up Road Win at Jessup

ROCKLIN, Calif. – It wasn't the best start for the OUAZ women's volleyball team on Friday, but the Spirit turned things around and picked up a 3-1 win at William Jessup at Warrior Arena.

OUAZ (9-7, 4-3 GSAC) hit negative in dropping the first set before getting things going and picking up the 12-25, 25-22, 26-24, 25-22 win. The Spirit totaled only four kills in the first set and allowed William Jessup (5-8, 2-5 GSAC) .429 hitting with 15 kills.

After recording 10 kills on .094 hitting in winning the second set, the Spirit got better with 16 kills on .300 hitting in the third and 15 kills while hitting .200 in the fourth. In the end, OUAZ had 45 kills and a .165 attack percentage.

Rylie Henige led the team with 12 kills for her fourth match, with 10-plus kills in the past six played. Livia De Pra added 11 kills, and Jessica Pearce finished with nine. OUAZ also got seven kills on .429 hitting from Madison Wampler.

The Spirit defense also slowed the Warrior attack and held the home team to 50 kills and a .162 attack percentage on the night. Kenzie Kuxhaus led the Spirit with 13 digs, and Pearce had four blocks.

OUAZ looks to complete the weekend sweep on Saturday when they face Menlo at 1 p.m. in Atherton, Calif.
