Turner Hat Trick Leads Spirit to Win in GSAC Opener

SURPRISE, Ariz. – Jamaine Turner recorded a hat trick to lead the 20th-ranked OUAZ men's soccer team to a 3-1 win over Westmont in the GSAC opener at Spirit Field on Thursday night.

It didn't take OUAZ (6-2-1, 1-0-0 GSAC) long to get on the board as Turner took a ball from Tinashe Simbo and beat the keeper to his right from 25 yards out in the third minute. It was the first goal allowed by Westmont (5-1-1, 0-1-0) in over 425 minutes of play.

Turner scored his second in the 28th minute after being alone in the center of the box, where he flicked a cross from Titouan Desveaux into the goal. Desveaux created the chance by drawing three defenders and putting his cross where Turner could finish.

OUAZ had little time to celebrate the 2-0 lead as Westmont got on the board in the 30th minute as Landon Amaral headed in a corner kick from Erik Guerrero. Spirit keeper Adam Salama came off his line to make a play on the ball, but it found the head of Amaral, and he redirected it into the empty net.

After the Warriors' chance to tie was stopped by Salama in the 58th minute, OUAZ quickly countered, and Juaval Roberts played a long ball to a streaking Turner down the sideline. Turner then carried possession into the penalty area for a shot into the side netting to complete the hat trick and set the game's final tally.

The hat trick was the second of Turner's career after posting the last Spirit hat trick last October against William Jessup. It is the 11th hat trick in program history.

Turner finished with five shots, and he put for on goal. Desveaux, Simbo, and Misael Moreno added two shots apiece. Salama recorded three saves to earn the win in goal.

Next for the Spirit is a home contest against The Master's on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
