No. 20 Spirit Secure Home Shutout of The Master’s

SURPRISE, Ariz. – Using a solid second half, the 20th-ranked OUAZ men's soccer team won its second straight GSAC game to begin the conference season with a 2-0 decision over The Master's on Saturday afternoon at Spirit Field.

It took until the 61st minute for OUAZ (7-2-1, 2-0-0 GSAC) to break through, but they did so in spectacular fashion. Noah Benvenuti played a long ball over the top to the foot of Jamaine Turner for a one-touch flick onto Tinashe Simbo for the easy finish and a 1-0 lead.

The Spirit continued to pile on the chances but could not find a second until the 89th minute when Bido Elmasry converted his first goal of the season by redirecting a cross right in front of the goal. Simbo played the ball across after Tom Cohen delivered an excellent ball through the defense to start the run.

In the end, OUAZ attempted 19 shots, putting nine of those chances on goal. Most of those came after halftime when the Spirit took 13 shots. Titouan Desveaux led all players with six shots while Turner had four.

Adam Salama picked up his second shutout of the season with one save.

OUAZ will spend next week on the road for two games that start on Thursday at Hope International.
