Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Penalty the Difference in Home Loss

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The 13th-ranked OUAZ men's soccer team lost its first home game of the season on Saturday night with a 1-0 decision against Arizona Christian in a non-conference game at Spirit Field.

The game's only goal came in the 20th minute when Kaden Grub of Arizona Christian (3-1-3) converted a penalty kick following an OUAZ (4-2-1) handball in the box. Grub struck the kick inside the right post for his second goal of the season.

After Arizona Christian controlled the action early, putting four shots on goal in the first 11 minutes, the Spirit began to settle in. OUAZ held the Firestorm to just two shots on goal the rest of the game to finish the night with an 8-6 edge in shots on target.

Mark Lydford had the best scoring chance of the evening for the Spirit in the 59th minute. He put his first shot across the goal and off the far post and then looked alone on the rebound, only to see that second chance snagged by the ACU keeper.

The last great chance for the Spirit came from Tinashe Simbo in the 80th minute, but his chance was also turned away.

Simbo had four shots in the end, and Tom Cohen attempted three. Adam Salama came up with five saves in goal.

OUAZ has one non-conference game remaining on the schedule, and that comes on Tuesday when they face Benedictine Mesa at Bell Bank Park.
