Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Late Goal Gives Spirit Season’s First Loss

PRESCOTT, Ariz. – The 10th-ranked OUAZ men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday night when a goal in the 88th minute gave Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) a 1-0 win at Varsity Field.

Chances were fairly even throughout the evening, with both defenses up to the challenge. Then, in the 88th minute, Embry-Riddle (1-1-1) used a quick counter started by its keeper after stopping an OUAZ (2-1) opportunity. Alex Frances was able to convert on an open net after Djougher Oliveira set him up with a nice pass.

The goal came on the final shot of a game that saw the Spirit with 15 attempts and five on goal. ERAU was credited with 13 shots and four on target. The Eagles also held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Jamaine Turner and Titouan Desveaux had two shots on goal apiece for the Spirit, with the team's last scoring chance coming in the 64th minute when Desveaux had a header turned away.

Marcos Papakostas made three saves in his first start in goal.

OUAZ will return to action on September 3 when they face Westcliff in California.
