No. 10 Spirit Shutout Pioneers

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The 10th-ranked OUAZ men's soccer team closed out a 2-0 win over Wayland Baptist on Thursday night at Spirit Field. The win completed a day of three wins for OUAZ teams over the visitors from Texas.

While the action was back-and-forth early, it took into the 44th minute when Titouan Desveaux gave OUAZ (2-0) a 1-0 lead. Moments earlier, Desveaux thought he scored on a corner, but it was deemed a handball, so this time he created enough space and snuck a shot inside the near post from just inside the box.

The Spirit would build the advantage in the 56th minute as Mark Lydford headed a shot under a lunging keeper. The play was set up when Peyton Montiel-Villegas headed a failed clear back into the area where Lydford was able to finish.

OUAZ finished the game with 13 shots and four shots on goal. They also held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. Wayland Baptist (0-1) took nine of its shots in the second half, with three on target.

Adam Salama picked up the win in goal for the Spirit with three saves.

The Spirit will now head to Prescott, where they will face Embry-Riddle on Saturday at 7 p.m.
