2022 Women's Volleyball Notes -- Week 2

After opening the new season with a five-set win on Friday, the 17th-ranked OUAZ women's volleyball team is set to host the OUAZ Invitational this weekend at Faith Arena. The Spirit will play four matches over three days, starting Thursday night against Wayland Baptist. They then face College of Idaho and MSU-Northern on Friday before closing the weekend against Carroll on Saturday.

OUAZ won its opener for the third straight season when they defeated Benedictine Mesa on Friday. The Spirit extended their home court winning streak to 11. It was also the team's 14th win in the past 15 matches to go to a fifth set and the 10th win in program history when trailing 2-1 in sets.

While the offense got off to a slow start at just 10.2 kills per set on .145 hitting, the defense delivered 14.8 digs and 2.2 blocks per set to currently lead the GSAC in each category. They also totaled 2.2 service aces per set to sit second in the conference.

Livia De Pra came through with a double-double of 14 kills and 16 digs against BenU. She led the team in kills and tied for the lead in digs while posting her fourth straight match with a double-double dating back to last season. She also tied for the team lead with three aces.

Rylie Henige recorded eight kills on .500 hitting, while Kaia Nowlin-Chaffino also had eight kills. Payton Treadwell added six kills.

Trina Suldan finished with a team-leading 21 assists and matched De Pra with three aces. Logan Kuehn had 16 assists and nine digs.

Evonne Rodriguez picked up 16 digs and one ace.

Jessica Pearce tallied eight blocks in her Spirit debut and currently leads the GSAC at 1.60 blocks per set.
